Icehotel
Jukkasjärvi, Sweden
Each winter the Torne River supplies the walls. Icehotel, in Jukkasjärvi in Swedish Lapland, is cut and rebuilt from the river's ice every season, north of the Arctic Circle.
Artists from many countries are invited to design its art suites, so the building is never the same twice. In spring the seasonal structure melts back into the river. A permanent section, Icehotel 365, keeps ice suites and an ice bar frozen all year, and heated rooms and cabins stand alongside for guests who prefer a warm bed.
